Rare feat of Arthur Fagg

Arthur Fagg was an English cricketer most notable for achieving a unique feat in first-class cricket: scoring a double century in each innings of a single match. Playing for Kent against Essex in 1938, he made 244 in the first innings and an unbeaten 202 in the second. This was the first time this record had been achieved, and it has only been matched once since. Although he had a lengthy first-class career, scoring over 27,000 runs and 58 centuries, his Test career was less successful, with a limited number of appearances. After retiring as a player, Fagg became a first-class umpire, officiating in 18 Tests and 7 ODIs.

Excluding Arthur Fagg, only one other player has scored a double century in both innings of a first-class cricket match: Angelo Perera. Playing for the Nondescripts Cricket Club against the Sinhalese Sports Club in a Sri Lankan domestic Premier League match in 2019, Perera scored 201 in the first innings and 231 in the second. This made him only the second player in the history of first-class cricket to achieve this remarkable feat, a record that had stood for 80 years since Fagg's performance in 1938.
