Farookh Engineer

Farokh Engineer is a former Indian cricketer who played as a wicket-keeper-batsman. Born in Bombay in 1938, he represented India in 46 Test matches and 5 ODIs from 1961 to 1975. He was known for his flamboyant batting style and agile wicket-keeping.

In first-class cricket, he played for Bombay and West Zone in India and for Lancashire County Cricket Club in England from 1968 to 1976. He was one of the first Indian cricketers to play as a professional in English county cricket and was a key part of Lancashire's success in the limited-overs format during that period, winning the Gillette Cup and John Player League titles. He was also selected as the wicket-keeper for the Rest of the World team that toured England in 1970 and Australia in 1971–72.

Engineer was honored with the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award, in 1973 for his contributions to cricket. He also became the first Indian cricketer to sign a major product endorsement deal with the hair styling gel Brylcreem, earning him the nickname "Brylcreem Boy." After his retirement from playing, he worked as a commentator and settled in England. He is also a vice-president of Lancashire County Cricket Club.
